Jean-Servais Somian Ivory Coast, b. 1971

Jean Servais Somian studied between Ivory Coast and Switzerland, at the Georges Ghandour carpentry and cabinetmaking centre in Abidjan, at the Grand-Bassam craft centre and then at the design and design agency Daniel Beck in Lausanne.

After many years between Africa and Europe, his creations prove to be mixed.
Produced in very small series and endowed with a strong personality, his pieces which are sometimes at the limit of sculpture remain no less functional and utilitarian.

Its contemporary design bears in it a share of ancestrality. One of its peculiarities lies in the choice of materials such as coconut, ebony or amazaque woods but also some revisited African everyday objects such as basins, sponge or old fishing pirogues... Thus, striking furniture with clean lines is born.

His work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions in Africa, Europe, the United States and Latin America.
